Female Physiotherapist at Home (Subject to Availability): Frequently Asked Questions, From Request to Programme End
These are the questions women and families actually send us when they are thinking about a female physiotherapist at home, grouped by stage: before requesting, availability, privacy, after childbirth, older women and girls, common conditions, home and family, the sessions themselves, and cost and what comes after.

Before you request
Do I need a reason to ask for a female therapist?
No. Choosing your therapist’s gender is your right and we never ask you to justify it. Mention it in the first message so it is recorded and respected in every later arrangement.
Is home physiotherapy right for my condition?
It suits many conditions: back and neck pain, recovery after fractures and surgery, weakness after a hospital stay, stroke, walking and balance problems, and the postnatal period. Fever, bleeding or severe unexplained pain need a doctor first. If you are unsure between physiotherapy and nursing, read the difference between them.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
Not always. A doctor’s report is essential after surgery, fractures and strokes, and useful for back pain with nerve symptoms. After childbirth, it is best that your obstetrician has cleared you for exercise.
What should I include in the request?
The condition or diagnosis, age, area and type of home, more than one suitable time, and any pregnancy or recent birth. Ready templates are on the female physiotherapist enquiry page.
Availability and appointments
What exactly does "subject to availability" mean?
We do not confirm until we have checked the female therapists scheduled in your area and time. If a suitable therapist is free, you receive a written confirmation; if not, you receive clear options. Our process is described on female physiotherapists at Bidaya.
When is it harder to find a female therapist?
Evenings after work, weekends and the hours after iftar in Ramadan are most in demand. Offering more than one time, or a morning slot, improves your chances.
What if my case is urgent and no female therapist is nearby?
We explain the options and the effect of waiting, and you decide: wait for the nearest female therapist, or start with a male therapist with someone you choose present, switching later. No alternative is sent without your consent.
Can I have a fixed weekly slot?
Usually regular days and times can be agreed after the assessment, depending on the therapist’s schedule, which also helps the programme stay consistent.
Send your area and possible times and we will tell you what is actually available for a female therapist near you.
Privacy and comfort
Can the session be in my bedroom?
Yes, and that is often best because exercises are practised where you actually live. The space just needs to be safe and large enough to move.
Will the therapist need to uncover parts of my body?
Only the area being examined or treated, after explaining why, with a cover sheet where needed. You can decline any part of the examination.
Is anything photographed during the session?
No, unless there is a clear clinical reason such as tracking your walking, and only with your permission. Images are never shared outside the treating team.
Will my husband or family be told about my condition?
Only as much as you agree to, if you are an adult able to decide. See the guide to privacy in home care for more.
After childbirth and during pregnancy
When can I start after a vaginal birth or caesarean?
It depends on the type of birth, your recovery and your doctor’s instructions. Gentle work such as breathing and simple pelvic floor exercises may start early; stronger abdominal exercise takes longer, especially after a caesarean. The therapist follows your doctor’s guidance.
Can a female therapist help with tummy separation and back pain after birth?
These are common in postnatal physiotherapy. The work starts with an assessment, then a gradual programme. See women’s health and postnatal physiotherapy.
Is physiotherapy possible during pregnancy?
In many cases, yes, for pelvic girdle and back pain for example, with precautions for each stage and your doctor’s approval. Mention the stage and any complications in the request.
Older women and girls
My mother is elderly and wary of strangers. How do we start?
Explain that the first visit is a conversation and assessment, not tiring exercise, and mention in the request that she is hesitant. A daughter or relative at the first session reassures her a great deal. See home physiotherapy for older adults.
Do you treat girls under 18?
Yes, depending on the condition, with a parent or guardian present at every session.
Can a female therapist visit a bed-bound patient?
Yes. The programme then focuses on positioning, bed exercises, safe transfers and preventing stiffness, while teaching the family. Nursing may also be needed.
Conditions we are often asked about
I have had low back pain for years. Will home treatment help?
Chronic back pain is one of the most common things treated at home, because the therapist sees how you sit, sleep and lift children or shopping in your real environment, and adjusts daily habits alongside exercise. The aim is usually less pain and better daily function, not a promise that it disappears. Increasing leg numbness, weakness or bladder changes call for a doctor first. More on spine and back pain therapy.
I had a knee replacement. When does the therapist start?
Usually soon after surgery, following the surgeon’s instructions, because the first weeks matter for regaining bend, straightening and safe walking. Send the surgery date and discharge summary, and say if your room is upstairs, since stairs are practised early.
My mother had a stroke and needs help with everything. Is one therapist enough?
The therapist leads the movement programme and teaches the family transfers and daily exercises, but patients needing full help may also benefit from home nursing for some tasks. Early on, the therapist may need a family member’s help with transfers, which is part of the teaching. See the stroke recovery programme at home.
I have osteoporosis and fear falling. Is exercise safe?
Carefully chosen exercise is an important part of preventing falls. The therapist first assesses balance, leg strength and hazards in the home, then picks suitable exercises and avoids unsuitable movements. The home fall-risk assessment is also worth reading.
Home and family
Can our domestic helper learn the exercises?
She can learn simple support, such as accompanying the patient while walking indoors or preparing the space. Exercises that need assessment and adjustment remain between the patient and therapist, and a family member should know the plan.
Our house has three floors and my mother’s room is at the top. Is that a problem?
Not in itself, but it shapes the plan. The therapist may suggest moving the room downstairs temporarily early on, or begin safe stair practice if the condition allows. Mention it in the request.
Can sessions for my mother and my daughter be combined?
If there are two cases in the same home, mention both. Sessions may be arranged one after the other if time and the therapist’s schedule allow, with a separate assessment for each.
What if we move house mid-programme?
Tell us early. Arrangements or the therapist may change with the area, and the case summary and plan are handed over if the therapist changes.
The sessions themselves
How long is a session?
It varies with the condition and the patient’s tolerance; the first is usually longer because it includes the assessment. The length is set in the plan.
How many sessions will I need?
That cannot be known before assessment; it depends on the condition, goals and response, and is reviewed as you go.
Will I get written or filmed exercises?
Usually yes; the home programme between sessions is central to results. Exercises are written step by step with repetitions, and a movement may be filmed on your phone with your permission. If an exercise makes pain steadily worse, stop and tell the therapist.
Does the therapist bring equipment?
Simple tools as the case needs; most treatment relies on exercise, hands-on techniques and education. If you need a walking aid, she will advise you.
Cost and after the programme
Is a female therapist more expensive?
Requesting a female therapist does not change how the quote is calculated; it depends on the condition, session length, number of sessions, area and any package. Ask for a quote after describing the case.
What happens when the programme ends?
The therapist reviews the goals with you and suggests a new phase, fewer sessions, or a written home programme you follow alone, with follow-up available later.
Send it as it is on WhatsApp, with the condition and area if you like, and we will answer clearly.
